A night of worship turned into horror in Kwara State after armed attackers stormed a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) congregation in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor.

Residents said the gunmen invaded the town shortly after evening prayers, opening fire on members of the congregation before seizing their victims and disappearing into nearby bush paths.

Community sources described the attack as deliberate and devastating, noting that families have been thrown into mourning while the whereabouts of the abducted remain unknown.

The incident has renewed fears over persistent violence targeting Christian communities across parts of Nigeria, despite repeated claims by some officials that religiously motivated attacks are not taking place.

Church leaders in the area say the latest killings fit a worrying pattern of assaults on places of worship, kidnappings during services, and unprovoked attacks on faith-based gatherings.

Local security volunteers have begun searching forest routes around the town, but residents say they feel abandoned as such attacks continue to occur with little consequence for the perpetrators.

Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement as grieving families call for justice, stronger protection for worship centres, and urgent action to end recurrent violence in the region.
