Five men have been arrested and are set to be arraigned for the violent assault of 55-year-old Mrs. Ndidiamaka Agu in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area, Imo State. The attack, captured on a viral video, sparked outrage across social media and prompted swift police action.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed that the suspects—Onyekachi Njoku, 40; Chiazor Osuji, 45; Chukwuma Iwuala, 46; Eugene Njoku; and Njoku Emmanuel, 35—have confessed to participating in the assault. Authorities are still searching for the sixth suspect, Onyedikachi Njoku, who remains at large.
According to DSP Henry Okoye, police spokesperson for the Imo Command, the violent attack involved six men beating Mrs. Agu while ignoring warnings from bystanders. The suspects also attempted to assault a woman recording the incident and tried to break down her door.
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had ordered an immediate investigation on November 3, 2025, following the circulation of the disturbing footage. The X-Squad Unit of the state police carried out the arrests and ensured the suspects’ statements were recorded.
Authorities stressed that the suspects will face criminal charges in court soon, as the police work to uphold justice and send a strong message against violent attacks on citizens. “Intimidation of individuals cooperating with law enforcement will not be tolerated,” the commissioner said.
The case has drawn attention to concerns over public safety in Emekuku and the effectiveness of local law enforcement in preventing similar incidents. Community leaders have urged vigilance and prompt reporting of violent acts to curb escalating criminal behavior.
As the investigation continues, police efforts remain focused on apprehending the sixth suspect and ensuring that all perpetrators are held accountable under the law. The arraignment is expected to reinforce the state’s commitment to protecting its citizens and maintaining law and order.
