The Anambra State government has approved the construction of 30 new public schools across the state, targeting communities that previously lacked access to government-run educational institutions. The decision was announced following the 22nd Executive Council meeting, held on Wednesday at the Light House Awka.

State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, PhD, said the initiative aims to ensure that the benefits of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s free education policy reach every community in Anambra. “The council agreed to build an additional thirty new primary schools after reviewing reports highlighting areas without public primary and secondary schools,” the press release stated.

The expansion of educational infrastructure is part of the Soludo administration’s broader strategy to deepen the impact of its education programmes. Officials emphasized that the move will enhance equitable access to quality education, particularly for children in rural and underserved areas.

Other key decisions at the council meeting included the adoption of the 2026-2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), which paves the way for the presentation of the 2026 Annual Budget to the Anambra State House of Assembly. The council expressed confidence that the 2026 Appropriations Bill will be assented to by December 31, 2026.

The council also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, for conducting the November 8 governorship election with “high integrity.” Governor Soludo, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, was decisively re-elected with 73% of the vote, winning all 21 local government areas.

Officials stated that the electoral success underscores the principle that delivering value and development to the people translates into political mandate. The council pledged to rededicate themselves to public service and complete ongoing projects, expressing gratitude to residents for their conduct before, during, and after the election.

The approval of 30 new public schools is expected to boost enrollment, reduce educational inequality, and further solidify Anambra’s position as a leading state in educational reforms within Nigeria. Residents can anticipate the commencement of construction in the coming months.
