Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has weighed in on the escalating security concerns in Nigeria that prompted US President Donald Trump to designate the country as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC). Adeboye called for urgent action while cautioning against blaming the current administration.
Speaking during the November Holy Ghost Service on Friday, November 8, 2025, Adeboye said the security challenges predate President Bola Tinubu’s tenure. “This is not the time for apportioning blame. Our President inherited this problem — it started before him,” he stressed, urging focus on immediate solutions rather than political finger-pointing.
Trump’s CPC designation followed claims of widespread attacks on Christians in Nigeria, with the US leader warning that American forces could intervene if the government fails to contain the violence. The move has sparked nationwide debate, though many Christian leaders have remained silent. Adeboye’s intervention is among the few high-profile religious responses.
The RCCG Pastor warned of global geopolitical realities, noting that China, Russia, and other world powers would not intervene if the US were to take military action. “They would only talk,” he said, emphasizing Nigeria’s need to act decisively and independently.
Adeboye urged President Tinubu to leverage his newly appointed service chiefs to eliminate criminal elements and their sponsors. He recommended a three-month ultimatum, stressing the urgency of dismantling terror networks to safeguard citizens and prevent foreign intervention.
The cleric acknowledged the gravity of the US threat, calling for immediate collaboration between federal security agencies and local intelligence units. He highlighted that proactive measures could restore both domestic stability and Nigeria’s international standing.
Adeboye’s message underscores the tension between external pressures and internal security challenges. While the US warning looms large, the focus for Nigeria, he insists, must be on swift action against terrorists, reinforcing national sovereignty, and preventing escalation into an international crisis.
