Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Chairperson of the State Civil Service Commission, Dr. Julie C. Onyeukwu.
The announcement was made in a statement issued late Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba. No official reason was given for the suspension.
According to the directive, Onyeukwu has been instructed to hand over all government property in her possession to the Permanent Secretary of the Commission or the most senior officer available.
“The Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, has approved the suspension of the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Dr. Julie C. Onyeukwu, with immediate effect,” the statement read.
“The suspended Chairman is to hand over all government property in her possession to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior person in the commission.”
The development has sparked speculation within government circles, as the Civil Service Commission plays a pivotal role in recruitment, promotions, and discipline within Imo’s public service.
No further details have been released on whether an acting chair will be appointed or if a formal probe will follow Onyeukwu’s suspension.
