The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has called on Governor Hope Uzodinma to disclose the full cost of the newly commissioned Assumpta flyover and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, inaugurated this week by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, the opposition party challenged the governor to embrace transparency, accusing his administration of shielding the financial details of major projects from public scrutiny.

The PDP alleged that the governor has sidelined the state’s Public Procurement Bureau, arrogating to himself the power to award contracts and manage funds without accountability. Obiaku described the unveiling of the projects as “fanfare designed to mask administrative corruption.”

The opposition further criticised the governor for what it described as “reckless spending on showpiece edifices” while essential infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and critical roads across the state remain in dire condition.

Highlighting examples, the PDP pointed to the deteriorating Umuguma road, which serves a Federal Housing Estate, and the impassable Nekede-Ihiagwa route leading to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. The party said many roads within the state capital are “a disgrace to behold” despite billions allegedly spent by the government.

“Imo citizens are gnashing their teeth and counting their losses over the plunder of their commonwealth. For instance, roads leading to the Ahiajoku Convention Centre and Saga Suites remain appalling, yet billions are wasted on entertainment for the President without accountability,” the statement read.

The PDP insisted that Uzodinma must publish the actual costs of the projects so residents can decide whether his administration is genuinely acting in their interest.

“We will not hesitate to make our own findings public sooner than later,” the party warned.
