Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has declared that none of Nigeria’s major opposition figures — Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi or Goodluck Jonathan — stand a chance against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The former Abia State governor and current lawmaker for Abia North made the remarks during an interview on Politics Today, aired on Channels Television on Wednesday.

According to Kalu, Tinubu’s policies have stabilised and repositioned the Nigerian economy, earning him broad support that would make him “very difficult to defeat.”

“President Tinubu has done well to turn around the economy and restore confidence in governance,” Kalu asserted. “No serious politician today can challenge him successfully in 2027.”

The senator also cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against any thoughts of returning to the ballot, insisting the constitution bars him from running again. “Jonathan should not waste his time; the law doesn’t permit him to contest,” he added.

Kalu, who served as governor from 1999 to 2007, is a long-time ally of President Tinubu and one of the leading voices defending the administration’s economic reforms despite rising public criticism.
