Reality TV star and entrepreneur Mercy Eke says her historic victory in the fourth season of Big Brother Naija was a win for “all young women” who have ever been told their dreams were out of reach.
Speaking in a recent interview with BellaNaija, Eke revealed that her journey into the Big Brother house in 2019 was marked by confidence and determination. She said she entered the show fully prepared to make history.
“I came into the show prepared. I was ready. And when I won the show, I did it for all the young women who have been told that they can’t. I did it for all of us,” Eke said.
Her win not only crowned her the first female winner in Big Brother Naija history but also redefined the perception of women in competitive reality television.
Since Eke’s trailblazing victory, two other women — Phyna (2022) and Ilebaye (2023) — have followed in her footsteps, reinforcing her legacy as a catalyst for female empowerment in the entertainment industry.
Eke, who has since become a fashion icon, brand influencer, and actress, said she hopes her story continues to inspire young Nigerian women to believe in their potential and defy societal limits.
