Three police inspectors in Lagos have been arrested for allegedly beating a 22-year-old man, Jacob Sunday, into a coma at the 22 PMF Barracks in Ogudu.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, following widespread outrage over reports that the officers had tortured the young man on Tuesday evening. The suspects — Inspector John Alom of 63 PMF Ikorodu, Inspector Sunday Adoga of CTU Base 2 Ikeja, and Inspector Jehovah Usam of 22 PMF Ikeja — are currently in detention pending investigation.

According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the inspectors allegedly lured Jacob, the son of Inspector Sunday Ochepo, into their room around 6 p.m. before subjecting him to a severe beating. The attack was reportedly prompted by accusations that Jacob was romantically involved with the wife of an officer, ASP Audu Richard, identified as Sarah Richard, who resides in the same barracks.

Sources said the young man was stripped naked and beaten until he lost consciousness. He was later rescued by a team of detectives and rushed to the Police College Cottage Hospital in Ikeja, where he remains in critical condition in the emergency ward.

Police spokespersons confirmed that the officers involved have been arrested and that disciplinary and criminal proceedings are underway. “Justice will be served upon completion of the investigation,” the command assured in a statement.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from human rights advocates, who described it as another example of police brutality and abuse of power within the force. Calls have mounted for the Lagos State Police Command to ensure transparency in the investigation and take decisive action against the culprits.

This case adds to growing concerns over misconduct and violence among security officers in Nigeria, as citizens continue to demand accountability and reform within the police force.
