Actor-turned-politician and former Labour Party chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of employing intimidation and state-backed suppression to destabilize opposition activities before the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Okonkwo said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has come under repeated attacks across several states, claiming security operatives and political thugs have been used to disrupt their meetings.
“ADC is on fire. The APC is using every method to intimidate and scatter the plans of the opposition,” Okonkwo said.
He alleged that ADC meetings in Kaduna, Lagos, and Ekiti were violently dispersed by groups acting under the protection of state security agencies.
Okonkwo, who defected from the Labour Party earlier this year, accused the APC of manipulating security institutions to undermine Nigeria’s democracy, in clear violation of the Electoral Act, which mandates equal protection for all registered political parties.
Despite the alleged intimidation, the Nollywood veteran expressed confidence in his party’s future, declaring that the ADC is poised to take over power in 2027.
“ADC is going to form the next government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are strategizing, and we will beat this APC. They are already imploding — all these endorsements are just an amalgamation of sycophants,” he added.
The accusations add to growing concerns among opposition figures who have repeatedly accused the APC-led government of weaponizing security agencies ahead of the next general election.
