The Imo State Government has commenced work on a new ultra-modern bus terminal along Onitsha Road in Owerri, opposite Holy Ghost College, as part of efforts to modernise transportation and improve connectivity across the state.

According to the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, the project is one of three major transport terminals being developed in the Imo capital to enhance intra- and inter-state travel.

“This is one of three modern terminals planned for Owerri, and it’s set to make travelling around the state and beyond a whole lot easier,” Ugochukwu said in a statement on Sunday.

He revealed that the projects are being executed by Planet Projects Ltd, the same company behind major terminals in Lagos, including the Oshodi Transport Interchange, which features smart ticketing systems and passenger-friendly amenities.

“These terminals will be modern travel hubs where people can comfortably catch buses to destinations such as Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Enugu,” he added.

Ugochukwu noted that construction work is progressing steadily at the Onitsha Road site, with foundations and structural walls already taking shape.

Residents of Owerri have expressed excitement about the development, describing it as a much-needed step towards easing traffic congestion and improving the public transport system in the city.
