Global music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, a new initiative designed to transform the state’s sports sector through sustainable financing and infrastructure development.
The appointment was announced by the Osun State Government on Wednesday as part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s broader plan to reposition sports as a major driver of youth empowerment and community development.
According to the statement, Davido’s new role will involve mobilising private and institutional investments to modernise sports facilities across the state and support grassroots talent development.
Confirming the appointment, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, said Davido enthusiastically accepted the role, describing it as “a call to give back to the people of Osun.”
“The ongoing rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards will be completed soon. We are also finalising plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission as the central body for sports policy and development,” Adewusi said.
He explained that the new Sports Trust Fund, chaired by Davido, would attract funding from philanthropists, corporate sponsors, and sports enthusiasts within and outside Nigeria.
“Davido’s involvement will not only draw national attention but also boost investment confidence in Osun’s sports ecosystem,” he added.
Governor Adeleke’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to making sports a cornerstone of youth development, economic empowerment, and community pride.
