A Magistrate’s Court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail to former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor — one of the lawyers representing detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu — and 11 others accused of participating in a protest demanding Kanu’s release.
The court’s decision, delivered on Friday, set bail at ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum for every defendant.
Those granted bail also include Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, alongside ten other demonstrators arrested in connection with the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held on October 20, 2025, in Abuja.
The group was charged with inciting public disturbance and breach of peace following the protest, which authorities claimed disrupted public order.
While Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and the other defendants were arrested at the protest venue and remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Sowore was detained three days later — on October 23 — at the Federal High Court premises in Abuja, where he had appeared to show solidarity during Kanu’s ongoing terrorism trial.
Human rights groups and activists have since criticized the arrests as politically motivated, describing them as an attempt to suppress dissent and peaceful assembly.
The court’s decision to grant bail now paves the way for their release pending further hearings on the charges.
Details to follow as the case develops.
