President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced sweeping changes in Nigeria’s military leadership, replacing Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa with Major General Olufemi Oluyede.
The shake-up, which took effect immediately, marks one of the President’s most decisive moves to overhaul the nation’s security architecture since assuming office.
According to a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President also appointed new heads for the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Under the new arrangement, Major General W. Shaibu becomes the Chief of Army Staff, Air Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as Chief of Air Staff, and Vice Admiral I. Abbas assumes the role of Chief of Naval Staff. However, E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Tinubu commended the outgoing Service Chiefs for their dedication and patriotism, urging the new appointees to “uphold professionalism, unity, and vigilance in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.”
The President emphasized that the leadership change reflects his administration’s commitment to bolstering national security and ensuring stability across all regions.
All appointments take immediate effect.
