Nigeria’s sprint queen Tobi Amusan has hailed divine providence for her silver medal triumph at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, where she stormed to a time of 12.28s in the women’s 100m hurdles final.

The race, staged in Tokyo, was won by Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who claimed gold in 12.24s, while Amusan’s performance secured her place among the world’s elite once again.

The 28-year-old bounced back impressively after the heartbreak of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where she endured one of the toughest seasons of her career.

“It’s been God. The journey has been extremely rough. I’ve taken more losses than wins, but I’m thankful for my support system — my coach, my family, my mentors, my loved ones, and my fans,” Amusan told Making of Champions.

With this result, Amusan became only the second Nigerian athlete to win multiple medals at the World Championships, following the footsteps of Blessing Okagbare and Ese Brume.

Her silver adds to a glittering career that already includes her world record of 12.12s, set in 2022, and her gold at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.

For Amusan, this latest achievement is not just about redemption on the track, but also about resilience, faith, and the enduring spirit of Nigerian athletics.
