Police in Kano have arrested two men in connection with the violent assault and armed robbery of Nigerian rapper Keshinro Ololade, popularly known as Lil Kesh.
The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Mathew Adewole and 31-year-old Mukhtar Muhammad, were tracked down and arrested at Na’ibawa Quarters, Kano, on September 11 following weeks of intelligence-led operations.
According to police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna, Adewole confessed to storming Lil Kesh’s Lagos residence at Bera Estate, Chevron, on August 19. The artist was attacked and left with a severe neck wound in what investigators described as an attempted murder.
During the assault, Adewole allegedly forced the rapper to transfer ₦2.12 million into Muhammad’s bank account before fleeing the scene.
“The Kano State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in a recent case of armed robbery and attempted murder, thanks to robust intelligence and community collaboration,” Haruna said.
The suspects have since been transferred to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
Kano Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended officers for their swift action and thanked residents for their cooperation, stressing that the arrests align with Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s directive to intensify intelligence-led security operations nationwide.
The case has sparked outrage among fans of the Afrobeats star, who is recovering after the brutal attack that shook the Nigerian entertainment scene.
