A new travel policy by Qatari authorities has sparked outrage after it was revealed that Nigerian men are now barred from entering the Gulf nation unless they are accompanied by their families.

Reports indicate that the rule specifically targets single Nigerian men who wish to travel alone, effectively shutting them out of Qatar’s immigration system. While no official explanation has been given, insiders suggest the move is linked to recent concerns over immigration control and labour-related issues.

Travel agents in Lagos and Abuja confirmed on Tuesday that applications from Nigerian men seeking to enter Qatar individually are being rejected. According to them, only men traveling with their wives and children, or families applying together, are currently being granted entry visas.

The restriction has generated heated debate online, with critics describing it as discriminatory and damaging to Nigeria’s international image. Many Nigerians took to social media to call on the federal government to urgently engage with Qatari authorities and seek clarification.

For professionals and business travellers, the policy raises new hurdles. Qatar has become an important hub for aviation, trade, and international events, including the FIFA World Cup it hosted in 2022. Analysts warn that shutting out Nigerian men traveling alone could impact tourism, investment, and diplomatic relations.

The Nigerian government has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, but sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said discussions are expected to be initiated with Qatari officials to determine the scope and duration of the ban.

Observers say the development underlines the growing challenges Nigerians face abroad, where stricter entry rules and immigration restrictions are increasingly being imposed.
