Nigerian rap legend Olamide has described Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy as “troublesome friends,” while insisting their brotherhood remains unshaken despite occasional disagreements.
Speaking on the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Olajide, the YBNL boss said:
“Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are all my friends; they are just too troublesome. They are cool dudes, it’s just that sometimes many can’t align on so many things, and that’s fine.”
The interview also gave fans insight into Olamide’s creative process, including his recent collaborations with Wizkid. He revealed that their joint single Kia unexpectedly led to another track, Billionaire’s Club, after Wizkid heard it during the video shoot and immediately insisted on being part of it.
“I just made that record the day before the shoot. Wiz heard it and said, ‘Na this one you for give me,’” Olamide recalled, praising Wizkid for his loyalty and support.
Beyond friendships, Olamide reflected on his prolific career spanning more than a decade, with over ten projects, international tours, and collaborations with global icons like Dr Dre. He also highlighted his role in discovering and mentoring Afrobeats stars including Fireboy DML, Adekunle Gold, Young Jonn, Asake and Lil Kesh.
On his motivation, Olamide credited his faith and tough beginnings:
“I grew up hoping and praying for opportunities, and I didn’t get them. So I took it upon myself that if I ever make it big, I’m going to create opportunities for others.”
The rapper is set to headline London’s OVO Arena on November 23, 2025 — a landmark show that will further cement his global influence in Afrobeats.
