Police in Japan have arrested a 75-year-old woman accused of hiding her daughter’s body in a freezer for two decades.
Authorities discovered the remains at the home of Keiko Mori in Ibaraki prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, on Tuesday, following a tip-off.
A police spokesperson confirmed that Mori admitted the body was that of her daughter, Makiko, who was born in 1975 and would have been 49 or 50 years old if alive.
The body of the adult woman was found inside a deep freezer, though investigators have not yet disclosed how she died or why her remains were preserved.
Local media report that forensic teams are now conducting examinations to establish the cause of death, while police continue questioning Mori about her motives.
The case has shocked residents in Ibaraki and across Japan, a country known for its relatively low crime rate but occasional disturbing incidents of concealed deaths within families.
