Nigerian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record sensation, Hilda Baci, is set to attempt another jaw-dropping culinary feat — cooking 250 bags of rice in a 22,619-litre pot to set a new world record for the largest pot of jollof rice ever made.
The announcement came on Monday through a trending video on her Instagram page, where she unveiled the massive steel pot measuring 6 metres wide, 1.1 metres tall, and 1.3 metres deep. “I’m making the executive decision to cook 250 bags of basmati rice. The pot is not going to sink,” she said with a confident smile.
The historic cooking event, billed for September 12, 2025, will be staged in Lagos and is expected to feed at least 10,000 people, combining food, culture, and entertainment in a mega festival atmosphere.
Hilda Baci is no stranger to global headlines. In May 2023, she captured the world’s attention when she cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes, breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. That victory made her a household name, turning her into one of Africa’s most celebrated chefs.
This latest challenge is bigger than anything she has ever done. Cooking 250 bags of rice will require an army of sous chefs, industrial-scale logistics, and a fire system powerful enough to keep the enormous jollof pot burning consistently for hours. Food experts say the attempt, if successful, will be one of the most ambitious food records in GWR history.
Beyond the culinary spectacle, Hilda says her mission is about unity, culture, and charity. By feeding 10,000 people, she hopes to spread joy while showcasing Nigeria’s jollof rice supremacy on the world stage. “This is not just about a record,” she said. “It’s about making history for Nigeria, Africa, and the jollof we all love.”
Excitement is already building across social media, with fans predicting that the event will draw thousands of spectators and food lovers. Brands and corporate sponsors are also lining up to be part of what could easily become one of the biggest food events ever hosted in Africa.
