Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, expressing gratitude for lifting the suspension order and six-month state of emergency imposed on the state.

The visit comes days after Tinubu formally reinstated Fubara, ending the tenure of Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) who served as sole administrator during the federal intervention.

Fubara described the president’s decision as an act of statesmanship that restored stability to Rivers, assuring that his administration would focus on reconciliation and development.

“I came to thank Mr President for lifting the suspension and restoring normalcy in Rivers State. His decision shows true commitment to democracy and the wellbeing of our people,” Fubara said during the visit.

The Rivers governor also promised to prioritise peacebuilding and collaboration with federal authorities to ensure stability in one of Nigeria’s most politically volatile states.

Tinubu had in March declared emergency rule in Rivers following political tensions and governance breakdown. The decision sparked debate nationwide but was lifted last week after successful local government elections and the restoration of civil order.

Observers see Fubara’s visit as part of a wider move to mend political rifts and reassure residents that his administration remains focused on service delivery after months of uncertainty.
