Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has been described as one of the most underrated players in the Premier League by European football pundit Julien Laurens.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live after Fulham’s 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, Laurens argued that both Iwobi and manager Marco Silva deserve far more recognition for their impact on English football.
Iwobi, who joined Fulham from Everton in 2023 after previously playing for Arsenal, has been in impressive form this season. The Nigeria international drew widespread praise last week after scoring and assisting in Fulham’s 3-1 victory over Brentford.
“Imagine what Marco Silva could do if he had proper investment,” Laurens said. “I think they are underrated. I think Iwobi is underrated and Marco Silva is massively underrated in this country.”
Despite Fulham’s inconsistent results, Iwobi has become a vital figure in midfield, blending creativity with work rate, and regularly producing performances that catch the eye of analysts and fans alike.
Football watchers believe Iwobi’s consistency for both club and country is beginning to silence critics who once questioned his decision-making in the final third. His recent contributions underline why many feel he remains one of the most underappreciated talents in the Premier League.
With Nigeria’s Super Eagles preparing for crucial international fixtures later this year, Iwobi’s current form is seen as a major boost to José Peseiro’s squad.
