Senator Uche Ekwunife has launched a blistering attack on Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, accusing him of arrogance and questioning the authenticity of his academic achievements.
In a scathing statement that has stirred reactions across political circles, the former lawmaker alleged that Soludo acquired his “professorship” from the “backyard” and does not embody the character expected of a public leader. She went further to ridicule the governor personally, saying he lacked courtesy and self-awareness.
Ekwunife, who represented Anambra Central in the Senate until 2023, claimed that Soludo’s leadership style has alienated many within the state and across political divides. According to her, his public utterances reflect a man “with a dangerous mouth” whose words often create unnecessary conflict.
The senator also took a swipe at Soludo’s personal hygiene in a controversial remark, saying the governor should “listen to his wife and use deodorant so people can freely breathe around him.” The statement, though highly personal, has gone viral on social media, sparking debates on the ethics of political discourse in Nigeria.
Observers note that the attack underscores the tense political climate in Anambra, where Soludo, a former Central Bank Governor, is already facing pressure ahead of the next electoral cycle. Ekwunife’s criticism is the latest in a string of verbal clashes that have defined the relationship between Anambra’s political elite.
While Soludo has yet to issue an official response, some of his supporters have dismissed Ekwunife’s remarks as politically motivated and unbecoming of a former senator. However, critics argue that the episode reflects broader dissatisfaction with Soludo’s governance style, even among former allies.
Analysts say the exchange highlights Nigeria’s deepening culture of personality-driven politics, where issues of governance and policy are often overshadowed by personal attacks and political score-settling.
