Kun Khalifat FC recorded their first-ever home victory in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a 3–1 triumph over El Kanemi Warriors at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday.
The Pride of Imo, still adjusting to life in the top flight, had faced mounting pressure after losing their debut NPFL home fixture to Remo Stars. But forward Ebuka Nwokorie emerged as the hero, striking twice to lead his side to a famous win.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Nwokorie timed his run to perfection, slotting calmly to give Khalifat a deserved lead. The hosts carried their advantage into the break, though wary of a Warriors team renowned for late comebacks.
Their fears were justified just two minutes after the restart as Ebuka Okoro pounced to draw El Kanemi level, briefly silencing the home crowd. However, the visitors’ joy was short-lived. Within two minutes, Onuoha Prince restored Khalifat’s advantage with a composed finish that reignited the stadium atmosphere.
Nwokorie then returned to centre stage in the 57th minute, firing home his second goal of the afternoon to put the contest beyond doubt and etch his name into club history.
The result lifted Kun Khalifat to four points from four matches, providing a morale boost for a side still finding its rhythm at the highest level. El Kanemi, meanwhile, remain on five points, facing pressure to rediscover form in the weeks ahead.
Next up, Khalifat face Shooting Stars in Ibadan at the Lekan Salami Stadium. The Oluyole Warriors sit bottom of the NPFL table after a 1–0 defeat to Rivers United in Port Harcourt.
For Khalifat and their faithful supporters, however, Sunday night will be remembered as the moment their NPFL journey truly came alive — thanks to the brilliance of Ebuka Nwokorie.
