The Borno State Police Command has arrested two internally displaced persons (IDPs) accused of beating a 72-year-old man to death at a camp in Ngala Local Government Area.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the development on Monday, identifying the suspects as 25-year-old Modu Mohammed and 32-year-old Annami Modu. The pair allegedly attacked the victim, Abba Mustapha, after accusing him of bewitching one of their wives, which they claimed caused her illness.

Armed with sticks, the suspects reportedly stormed Mustapha’s home inside the camp and subjected him to a brutal beating. Police officers at the scene intervened and rushed the elderly man to Ngala General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The Borno State Police Command recovered four sticks believed to have been used in the assault and confirmed that the suspects are now in custody.

The deceased’s body has been released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites, while the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri has launched a full investigation.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about witchcraft accusations and mob justice within vulnerable communities, particularly among displaced populations already struggling with trauma and insecurity.
