Prominent activist Annkio Briggs has called for former Rivers State sole administrator, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), to be held accountable for funds allegedly spent during his six-month tenure.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Briggs insisted that the people of Rivers State — and indeed Nigerians — deserve a full account of how public resources were managed under Ibas.
“He spent our money. He has to account to the people of Rivers State, even to Nigerians, for the sake of integrity, justice and fairness,” she declared.
Briggs criticised what she described as the culture of impunity in governance, warning that no official should be allowed to “walk away as if you were never there” after handling state funds.
Ibas, who served as Chief of Naval Staff before being appointed by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025 to oversee Rivers State during emergency rule, officially handed power back to Governor Siminalayi Fubara last week after the lifting of federal intervention.
But Briggs stressed that accountability must follow:
“He was here for six months, and within that six months, he spent our money; that’s the truth. I see no reason why people wonder why we call it our money. It’s our money.”
Her remarks add fresh weight to the debate over financial transparency in Rivers State, where questions remain about how state resources were managed during the emergency administration.
