Residents of Kajola community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State are reeling in shock after police arrested a man, Eze Amadi, for allegedly killing his neighbour’s 28-year-old son, Ifeanyi Otu, and attempting to conceal his body inside a water drum.

The gruesome incident, which occurred on Monday, August 25, 2025, has thrown the community into mourning. Witnesses told journalists that Amadi was caught while trying to move the corpse on a motorcycle under the cover of darkness, sparking outrage among locals who quickly alerted the authorities.

Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest through its spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, who assured that investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would face prosecution. “The suspect is already in our custody, investigation is ongoing, and after it is concluded, he will be charged to court. According to reports, Amadi allegedly tortured Otu to death in his residence before wrapping the body in foam and stuffing it inside a water drum. The motive for the killing remains unclear, but neighbours said the suspect and the victim’s family had lived in the same area for years without major disputes publicly known.

The victim’s father, Mr. Michael Otu, described the killing of his only son as “devastating and unbearable.” Speaking in tears, he recounted: “I was at home when I received a call that my son’s body had been found in a water drum. When I arrived, I saw him lying lifeless after the drum was cut open. Justice must be served in this case.”

Community members have since called on the police and the Ondo State Government to ensure a swift and transparent trial. Many expressed anger at the rising cases of violent crimes in rural areas, warning that delays in justice could spark unrest.

This tragic killing comes at a time when insecurity and violent disputes are on the rise in parts of Ondo State, with residents demanding stronger policing and community vigilance. For Kajola, a once-quiet community, the horrific discovery has left families fearful and clamouring for answers.
