Residents of Awada, Obosi in Anambra State were thrown into shock on Saturday, July 6, 2025, when police operatives arrested a 25-year-old man, Samuel Eze, caught with a severed human breast in broad daylight. The disturbing discovery has sparked fears of ritual activity in the area, prompting urgent calls for deeper investigation and swift prosecution.
Police confirmed that the arrest was made at about 3:30 p.m. by a joint patrol team of Awada Division officers and Anambra Vigilante operatives along Jude Onyekwere Street. The human body part was immediately recovered and deposited at a morgue for forensic examination. Eze is currently under intense interrogation at police custody.
Anambra State Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the Command is treating the case as a potential ritual homicide and has already launched a wider investigation to determine the identity of the female victim and if other accomplices are involved. “This is not a random crime,” a source at the station said. “The nature of it demands full forensic and intelligence follow-up.”
In a separate breakthrough, officers of the Rapid Response Squad successfully rescued a kidnapped driver on July 4, 2025, around 12:45 p.m., and recovered a truck carrying custard powder worth N9.5 million. The truck, originally bound for Asaba in Delta State, had been hijacked by a three-man gang who diverted the goods and tied the driver up in a bush.
The arrested suspects—Udegenyi Ugochukwu (38), Anayochukwu Okonkwo (47), and Good Odigili (47)—confessed to the crime, explaining that they intended to sell the goods to a warehouse operator in Enugwu-Ukwu. Police say the confessions have opened up a wider investigation into logistics-related hijackings across the South-East.
Additionally, police operatives recovered an abandoned custom-colored Toyota Sienna minivan, marked 736 JP, with the inscription “Forum of Accountants Delta State” along Okpuno–Umuota Village in Obosi on July 5. Authorities are now calling on the public to present proof of ownership to claim the recovered vehicle, believed to have been stolen.
The Anambra Police Command, backed by the Civil Defence, DSS, Immigration, military, and local vigilantes, says it will intensify patrols and surveillance across the state in response to rising cases of violent and organized crimes. “These wins show we are making progress, but the threats remain serious,” DSP Ikenga said.
