Fresh controversy has erupted in the ongoing divorce saga between Nollywood actor Yul Edochie and his estranged wife, May Edochie, following the circulation of a viral letter claiming she apologized to him. May, through her legal representative Emeka Ugwuonye, has now issued a firm public rebuttal, branding the apology letter as “fake and desperate propaganda.”
In a Facebook statement posted on July 2, 2025, Ugwuonye described the viral letter as a calculated move to manipulate public sentiment. He clarified that May never issued any apology and is fully committed to continuing her divorce proceedings. According to the statement, the circulated letter was the work of individuals attempting to “twist the narrative after failing to win public sympathy.”
May’s legal team also pointed out that it was Yul Edochie who had previously issued a public apology over his decision to marry actress Judy Austin as a second wife, a move that triggered widespread backlash in April 2022. They stressed that any past apologies from Yul hold no weight in the ongoing court proceedings, especially regarding the divorce and May’s N100 million lawsuit for damages over adultery.
The embattled mother of three remains resolute in her quest for justice. Her legal counsel maintained that no form of social media manipulation or fake news will deter her from pursuing full legal redress. “There’s no turning back,” the statement read. “Our client is focused on securing her rights and dignity through lawful means.”
The fake apology letter, which surfaced earlier this week, had falsely portrayed May as retracting her allegations and seeking reconciliation. The post went viral across Facebook and Instagram, leading to heated debates and divided opinions among fans.
Supporters of May have since taken to social media to rally behind her, using hashtags like #JusticeForMay and #StandWithMay, while condemning what they describe as a deliberate attempt to gaslight a woman who has consistently stood her ground in a very public marital crisis.
Legal observers say the timing of the fake letter is suspicious, coming just weeks before the next court sitting on the divorce and adultery lawsuit. Analysts predict that this new twist could further intensify the legal and media battle surrounding one of Nigeria’s most talked-about celebrity splits.
