Nigeria’s Super Falcons will fly into Morocco on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, for their final training camp ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following a goalless but tactically impressive friendly against Portugal on Monday night.

The encounter, held at the Estadio José Gomes in Lisbon, saw Justine Madugu’s team display defensive discipline against the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16 qualifiers, in what was their last tune-up on European soil before heading to North Africa.

Coaching staff have confirmed the team will hold a light recovery session Tuesday morning before their departure. Upon arrival in Casablanca, the Falcons are scheduled to begin tactical drills and team bonding exercises immediately.

To sharpen match fitness and test cohesion, the nine-time African champions will engage in a final preparatory match against the Black Queens of Ghana on Sunday, June 29. The West African derby is expected to provide a tough test ahead of the continental campaign.

Nigeria will kick off their WAFCON group stage on Saturday, July 6, against Tunisia. Other group fixtures will see the Falcons face Algeria and Botswana, with all matches set to be played in Casablanca.

WAFCON 2024 represents a critical mission for the Falcons, who are aiming to reclaim the title they lost in 2022 to hosts South Africa. With an evolving squad blending experience and youth, Nigeria remains one of the favourites to lift the trophy again.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness and emphasized that logistical and technical support has been fully activated to ensure the squad’s seamless participation in Morocco.
