Paul Onuachu is on the verge of a permanent switch to Turkish giants Trabzonspor, following a standout loan spell that reignited interest from the Black Sea club.
After netting 15 goals in just 21 league games during the 2023/24 campaign, the towering Nigerian forward proved pivotal in Trabzonspor’s attack, prompting the Turkish side to re-enter negotiations with Southampton. The Saints, recently relegated from the Premier League, are now more willing to offload the 30-year-old striker.
Talks between both clubs are now in advanced stages, with Trabzonspor reportedly tabling a €5 million bid for the prolific forward. Onuachu initially joined Southampton in January 2023 from Belgian club KRC Genk for a fee believed to be around €18 million, but failed to find consistent form in England.
Sources close to the deal suggest that personal terms are no longer a barrier, and Onuachu is keen to continue his career in Turkey where he found confidence, rhythm, and a supportive fanbase.
Trabzonspor see Onuachu as a long-term solution to their attacking woes, particularly after his dynamic performances last season elevated the club’s domestic campaign. His aerial presence, finishing prowess, and big-match temperament have made him a fan favorite.
With Southampton looking to trim their wage bill and restructure ahead of life in the Championship, the sale is likely to go through before the end of June, pending medical and final paperwork.
