The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described Governor Hope Uzodimma’s recent State of the State Address as a wasteful, repetitive, and deliberately deceptive exercise that failed to address critical issues affecting the lives of ordinary citizens. In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the PDP said the Governor’s address was nothing but “an uninspiring rerun of last year’s speech, laced with half-truths and evasions.”

According to Lancelot Obiaku, the Imo PDP Publicity Secretary, Uzodimma’s speech once again shifted blame for the lingering insecurity across the state onto an “unnamed opposition,” ignoring documented incidents of violence and kidnappings in places like Okigwe, Onuimo, Ihitte-Uboma, Owerri West, Oguta, Ngor-Okpala, Orsu, and Orlu LGAs.

Obiaku cited specific security lapses, including the May 6, 2025 kidnapping of 26 passengers on the Owerri-Aba road in Ngor-Okpala, the May 8 deadly attack in Umuna, Okigwe LGA, which claimed over 20 lives, and the persistent killings in Agwa, Oguta LGA, where over 100 deaths have reportedly occurred due to suspected terrorist attacks.

The PDP also questioned Uzodimma’s claims of tackling insecurity, stating that several communities including Amakohia-Ubi, Avu, Obinze, and Okuku remain under siege from kidnappers, organ harvesters, and terrorists. The party accused the Governor of turning a blind eye to the suffering of Imo residents while focusing on self-praise.

Beyond security concerns, the opposition party slammed Uzodimma’s failure to disclose the state’s financial standing. They challenged him to provide details of federal allocations, internally generated revenue, intervention funds, and how these funds were spent over the past five years.

The statement also criticized the Governor for allegedly avoiding questions about project costs and contract details, insisting that transparency and accountability remain absent under his administration.

Concluding, the Imo PDP described the entire address as “a useless jamboree staged at taxpayers’ expense,” calling it “an annual ego massage that serves no meaningful purpose for the people of Imo State.”
