Ten lives were tragically lost in the early hours of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, following a gruesome crash involving multiple vehicles along the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Eyewitnesses who spoke on a live broadcast on Lagelu 96.7 FM described the scene as chaotic, with mangled vehicles and dismembered bodies scattered across the road. The crash involved three Nissan Micra commercial taxis and three heavy-duty articulated trucks, all reportedly heading from Iwo Road toward Lagos before the fatal collision occurred.

Survivors blamed the crash on reckless overtaking and speeding by one of the trucks, which lost control and collided with the taxis. The impact instantly claimed multiple lives, leaving others trapped in the wreckage for hours before emergency services arrived.

Local residents and commuters mobilized to assist before authorities reached the scene. Some of the victims, including passengers in the taxis, died on the spot, while others succumbed to injuries before medical help could be administered.

Efforts to reach the Oyo State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for an official casualty figure or emergency response details were unsuccessful as of press time. However, responders from the Oyo State Fire Service confirmed recovery operations were completed before noon.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, notorious for frequent accidents, has once again become a graveyard for innocent travelers, prompting renewed calls for stricter speed regulations, improved road surveillance, and immediate action by the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Families of the victims are now in mourning, while Nigerians on social media have expressed outrage over recurring road fatalities, urging federal and state governments to prioritize road safety and emergency response services on major expressways.
