The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, Muhammad Adamu, was brutally assassinated by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday night, March 19, 2025, at his residence.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the attackers stormed his home shortly after he broke his fast, unleashing a hail of bullets before fleeing the scene. Security operatives, including the police and military, responded swiftly, but Adamu had already succumbed to his injuries. His body has been deposited at the Barkin Ladi General Hospital and will be laid to rest today (Thursday, March 20, 2025), according to Islamic rites.
Confirming the tragic incident, MACBAN Plateau State Chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, strongly condemned the murder and urged security forces to track down and bring the killers to justice.
“This is a grievous loss, not just for MACBAN but for the entire Barkin Ladi community. We demand an immediate and thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are held accountable,” Babayo said.
Community youth leader Alhaji Danjuma Ibrahim disclosed that this was the third assassination attempt on Adamu, adding that his commitment to peacebuilding efforts in Plateau State may have made him a target.
The attack underscores the escalating insecurity in Plateau State, as political leaders, traditional rulers, and community heads continue to fall victim to targeted killings. The Plateau State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Alfred Alabo, claimed to be unaware of the incident, further raising concerns over security lapses in the region.
With tensions rising, the murder of the MACBAN leader has sparked renewed fears of reprisal attacks and further violence in the state.
