Gombe State Chapter, Christian Association of Nigeria, on Thursday, condemned the Muslim-Muslim ticket fielded by the All Progressives Congress for the 2023 presidential election.

The PUNCH reports that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, had on Sunday, announced the former Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate.

Speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent CAN Chairman, Rev. fr. Joseph Shinga, described the latest development as an act geared towards disintegrating the country.

He said the current political temperature doesn’t support one religious ticket, revealing that the current administration has divided the country along religious and ethnic.

He stressed that the flagbearer of APC was only interested in winning elections than unifying the country.

The Chairman said, “Gombe CAN not different from the national. The condemnation of one religious ticket. We are talking about being together, carrying people together, national unity, cohesion understanding all of a sudden Bola Ahmed Tinubu decided to exclude Nigerians (Christians).

“He (Tinubu), is not concerned about uniting Nigeria but concerned about winning election. If there is any time we need unity it is now, we are divided along religious and ethnic lines. His choice has further deepened the disunity in the country, supposing a Christian did this I will still be angry.”

Responding to the question that Tinubu has a pastor as a wife, he said, “Is it the wife that is our President or Vice President? I don’t know the wife I have not seen the wife, have you seen the wife?”

Commenting on the decision of CAN in Gombe, the Chairman said he would not influence the choice of members on candidates while commending Islamic scholars for speaking against what he described as an “act of disunity”.

“We will abandon All Progressives Congress, there are other options (political parties with candidates). I won’t suggest to anybody to go to any party. APC has failed to unite this country. When we are complaining about the current president (Muhammadu Buhari). I commend some Islamic clerics who have condemned this move, it means we are together and by the grace of God we will surmount this disunity,” he added.
