Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has admitted he is unsure whether he will contest the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing the need for a “viable platform” to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in an upcoming interview on Untold Stories with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie, Atiku—who has vied for the presidency six times—did not rule out the possibility of running but stressed that Nigeria is in dire need of “experienced and credible leadership.”

His statement follows his recent formation of an opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The move has fueled speculations about a possible alliance between Atiku, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.

“We had a similar merger in 2014, and one of us emerged. We supported him, and he won. That is how to do it,” Atiku remarked, recalling the APC coalition that led to Muhammadu Buhari’s victory.

His comments signal a growing push for opposition unity ahead of 2027, with analysts suggesting he may step aside to back a consensus candidate rather than run for a seventh time.
