Unknown gunmen unleashed terror on Tuesday morning, shooting two police officers and a civilian in Imo State. The attack occurred at around 6:25 am at a security checkpoint on the Owerri-Okigwe road in the Akabo area of Ikeduru Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses reported the incident, revealing that the attackers fired at the officers and another victim, a civilian inside a nearby house. One witness, in a video that has since gone viral, described the scene: “This just happened now. Unknown gunmen have shot two police officers at Akabo in Ikeduru LGA. Also, a civilian was shot.”

The video footage showed two police officers in uniform lying motionless on the ground, while another body was seen inside a house. Another witness added, “Unknown gunmen in a vehicle driving roughly were shooting sporadically after killing the two police officers at a security checkpoint and also shot a man inside his house. They targeted the man and shot him.”

The violent outburst caused panic among residents, who fled for safety. Shop owners quickly closed their businesses in fear of further attacks. One resident, requesting anonymity for security reasons, explained, “We are running. Nobody knows what is next. So we have to take cover for the moment until everything is calm. The best thing is to close your shop at the moment.”

As of the time of reporting, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, had not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
