A 44-year-old tailor, Usman Abubakar Shaba, was brought before the Ikeja High Court on Thursday by the Lagos State Police Command, facing charges of manslaughter in connection with the death of Usman Hamed.

The arraignment took place before Honourable Justice Ogala, where Shaba faced a single count of manslaughter. The charge alleged that on February 20, 2023, at approximately 7:30 am, at Number 12 Odusanya Street, Agege Lagos, Shaba caused the death of Usman Hamed by severely beating him and forcefully pressing his body down.

Prosecution counsel O.A. Azeez cited Section 224 of the Criminal Law, page 617, volume 3, of the Laws of Lagos State 2015, which defines manslaughter.

To ensure clarity, the court translated the charges into Hausa for the defendant’s understanding. Shaba pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The case has been adjourned to October 7, 2024, for further proceedings.
