The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School at the institution’s hostel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The student, identified as Faith Alayande, was found unresponsive within the hostel premises on Friday, August 7, 2026. The circumstances surrounding her death are now being investigated by the police.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and said the matter was reported by the hostel matron. Police officers subsequently visited the scene and began preliminary investigations.
Adebisi said the deceased’s body was evacuated to a morgue for preservation as investigators work to establish what happened.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama also reported that the incident was brought to the attention of the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30am by the Chief Matron of the Law School, Mrs Igbokwe Juliana.
Police have not disclosed the outcome of their investigation, and authorities have not indicated that the circumstances surrounding the death have been conclusively established.
The incident has renewed attention on the welfare and wellbeing of students in demanding professional training environments. The Nigerian Law School has campuses across the country and prepares students for entry into the legal profession.
A similar death involving a Nigerian Law School student was reported in December 2025, when a student at the Yola campus, Ayomiposi Ojajuni, reportedly died after facing difficulties related to his professional examinations.
The Lagos Police Command said its investigation into the latest incident remains ongoing.
