The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde on Friday, July 14 ordered the commencement of the supervision of field officers of the state police command.

The field officers are those on ‘stop-and-search duty, traffic control and other operational duties.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, the supervision of the field officers followed series of complaints of extortion and other acts of incivilty levelled against the field officers by members of the public.

The CP directed the IGP X-Squad Unit, the Command’s Monitoring Unit and the provost to undertake the strict supervision of the field officers

Barde enjoined Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to ensure that field officers in their areas of jurisdiction refrained from all forms of corruption.

He said the personnel are also to respect the rights of citizens and dress neatly in compliance with the dress code and ethics of the police force.

The CP reiterated the commitment of the police force to ensuring that officers uphold the tenets of professionalism and respect the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.

Barde also assured of the readiness of the command to take disciplinary action against any erring officer.

He urged members of the public to swiftly report any police personnel found compromising the professional ethics of the police force.

Our correspondent learnt that reports of police officers allegedly molesting and checking phones of youngsters including forcing them to transfer huge sums of money to the bank accounts of police personnel on field duty have flooded the command.
