Kidnappers have reportedly abducted a medical doctor, Alex Gyemwase, in Zaki Biam, headquarters of the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

Gyemwase’s stepbrother, Peter, said the kidnappers stormed the doctor’s residence opposite the NKST Secondary School, Zaki-Biam, around 8pm on Tuesday.

“Yes, my brother was kidnapped around 8pm in his house opposite The NKST School in Zaki Biam. About four of them came. One was standing on the road and three entered the house. He was picked with his son, but his son was later released,” Peter said.

Peter added that efforts to contact Alex on his phone number proved abortive, adding that their elder brother, Joseph, reported the case to  police.

Contacted, the Commander of Operation ZENDA, CSP Justin Gberyindyer, said he was not aware of Alex’s kidnap, adding that he got information that some people wanted to kidnap two persons in the town but they did not come.

“As I speak to you, we are in the hot spot in Zaki Biam; when we heard the information, we spread around but they (kidnappers) didn’t come. It is unfortunate that locals in the area always give information to the criminals about the presence of security men,” Gberyindyer said.
