A group of former chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP have described the move by their former party to bring them back as a waste of time.

The group who defected to All Progressives Congress APC alongside Chief Charles Ezekwem in 2020 said that they will remain loyal to the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodinma and will have nothing to with PDP.

“We won’t go back to Egypt”, Hon. Damian Opara who resigned in 2020 as the Imo PDP Publicity Secretary said during a press briefing in Owerri on Monday.

Hon. Opara who spoke for the group said that they left the PDP in good faith and won’t be returning with the Party’s former Chairman Chief Charles Ezekwem who has just formmerlized his reunion with their former paty.

“We have decided to remain in APC with His Excellency Most Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma as the governor of Imo State. We are comfortable with our membership of APC, we do not intend to return to PDP.”

“We wish to declare that as very responsible personalities with tested and proven integrity and reputation, we have decided to remain in Imo State APC.to contribute our quota to the 3R agenda of Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration.”, he said.

Stating that they wholeheartedly joined the APC because the work Governor Hope Uzodinma is doing in the state, the group added that the government was ordained by God and because God gave Sen. Uzodinma power, they will continue to be with him in the APC.

Concluding, he said “We reject all the covert moves, clandestine movements, all towards the enticement by certain individuals trying to lure us back to PDP, we will not leave what we have trying to go into a wild goose chase”

Hon. Opara said that people comparing Gov. Hope Uzodinma’s administration of two years to other governors who have spent six years in office are wrong to do so.

The group called on everyone to join hands with the governor to save the state, adding that the problem in the past was that people abandoned the state for Senator Rochas Okorocha and that will never happen again.

The group said that those who wish to go back to PDP are free, but they will remain in APC, bearing in mind that they are the best of those who left the party, having former leaders from National, Zonal, State and Ward levels in their ranks.
