The member representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima Thursday, September, 30th, 2021 moved a motion for the urgent rehabilitation of the Avu/Etekwuru Road and completion of the abandoned Oguta/Nnebukwu Bridge on the floor of the green chamber.

The motion was titled, “Motion On the urgent need to rehabilitate Avu/Etekwuru Road and Complete the abandoned Oguta/Nnebukwu Bridge in Imo State”.

Uju Kingsley noted that the Avu/Etekwuru Road is a major road linking Ohaji/Egbema and Owerri West LGAs of Imo State and also an access road for Multinational oil companies and over 30 Communities in the 2 LGAs.

He maintained that the road contract was awarded about 15 years ago and the contractors were mobilised but regretted that no significant progress has been made at the site as the contractors are demanding for an upward review of the contract due to high cost of materials.

He stressed that the road has become impassable as it has deteriorated, cutting off the three neighbouring LGAs in Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta, and Owerri West from other parts of Imo State.

The lawmaker pleaded with the house, saying if the road is not given urgent attention it deserves, more lives and properties would be lost to flooding in Avu/Etekwuru and other communities where the construction of the bridge was abandoned in Oguta.
