The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State, is too weak to recapture power, particularly the governorship in 2023.
This was disclosed by a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC in the State, Mr. Kenneth Iwueke, when speaking to newsmen in Owerri. He said the PDP lacks the political will to revive and rebuild itself for the 2023 elections in the State.
Iwueke said the defection of some of the party’s key officials to the All Progressive Congress, APC is an indication that the PDP in the State is on a gradual and steady drift to collapse.
He claimed that the morale of party members at the ward level, is so low at the moment.
He said “The PDP lacks the firepower to bounce back to power in 2019. They cannot win the governorship of the State again because the party is decimated at the moment with the defection of some of its exco members. This signposts that all is not well in the party. The APC government of Hope Uzodinma, will soon overrun the PDP with its performance in office.
Reacting to a question that the PDP defeated the APC by winning the 2019 governorship election, Iwueke said the PDP never won that governorship election.
“The Supreme Court verdict which removed Ihedioha as Governor of Imo State, has reaffirmed the fact that the PDP never won the 2019 Imo governorship election. Based on that verdict of the nation’s apex court, the APC won the election. The PDP stole the victory of the APC and the Supreme Court retrieved it from them.
“Infact, the party has never won any election in the State. Check the records from 1999. It was APGA that was winning elections in the State but most times, they could not protect their victory and it was being snatched away from them by the PDP.
“The PDP even when they were in power in the State always used other unconventional methods to win elections in the State.
“But in 2019, they were caught napping by the Supreme Court’ Iwueke submitted
