Following the allegations leveled against Governor Rochas Anayo Okorocha led government in the state regarding the withdrawal of over N17 Billion in the past few days, by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the people of the state have called on members of PDP to give details of their claims.
Some of the people who spoke to Daily Nigerian Horn on the basis of anonymity, said that PDP cannot make such claim without producing facts to back it up, adding that the party should not for the sake of politics mislead the people with false alarm.
According to them, the time of political propaganda has passed and it is expected of the party, having won election to fashion out ways of addressing nagging challenges and needs of the people.
The people further advised the governor elect, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha not to tow the path of the past governors who they said deceived Imolites with unverifiable and unfounded claims, may be just to score cheap political goals.
It could be recalled that the same scenario played out in 2011 when Okorocha had told Imolites that his predecessor, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim spent N150m daily on frivolities and such claims were never proved or verified by him till date.
Meanwhile, reacting to the allegations, Okorocha has through his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo said that for PDP to come up with such allegation, barely three days after the declaration of Ihedioha as winner of the guber poll, is a clear indication that neither the party nor its candidate is capable of coping with challenges of governance.
He further advised Imo people to disregard the claims as they are baseless, careless statements and unfounded; stressing that, it was only an attempt to give excuse to why the party will fail in its expectations from the people.
“He (Ihedioha) never mentioned how the withdrawal was made whether it was withdrawn cash or through transfer. And where in Imo State with meager Federal allocation and IGR can one see N17 billion to withdraw?
“Blackmails and propaganda which the PDP invested heavily in during the 12 years they governed the state have become old-fashioned in the state at the moment.” Okorocha said.
