Hip-hop and R&B music nearly became forgotten genres in the city of Owerri, where Bongo music was ruling and artistes of the former genres nearly turned fans of the latter.

Today, the story is changing and the table is turning around with the emergence of radio stations like Hot 99.5 Fm and other online and newspaper promoters who chose to promote local content.

For the fans of Nigeria music who are thrilled by artistes in Owerri, O’town Gist Entertainment is asking this simple question “what song would you considered the best that rocked the air waves this year?”

A statement by Chinedu Hardy Nwadike, CEO, O’town Gist Entertainment, reads, “2012 has seen a lot improvement in the music industry of Imo State. A good percentage of the lost confidence in the industry has been restored so far and the credit goes to the artistes and the producers who ensured that nothing but good music was released throughout the period in view.

Media houses, radio stations, and TV stations in the state have their bits to this success because they have devoted time to the promotion of local contents.
