Wande Coal Reportedly Converts to Islam as Singer Celebrates 41st Birthday

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Wande Coal has reportedly embraced Islam as he marked his 41st birthday, following the circulation of a video showing him at an Islamic prayer gathering.
The report has generated reactions on social media, with fans discussing the singer’s alleged change of religious affiliation. However, Wande Coal has not publicly confirmed the reports, leaving details of his religious journey unclear.
The singer, whose real name is Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe, was reportedly seen at the prayer gathering in a video shared online on October 18. The footage drew further attention as social media users speculated about his religious background.
Music executive Bizzle Osikoya also reportedly weighed in on the discussion after a social media user questioned the singer’s religion. Osikoya was quoted as replying, “He reverted,” a comment that many interpreted as confirmation that Wande Coal had embraced Islam.
The term “reverted” is used by some Muslims to describe accepting Islam, reflecting the belief that people are born with an innate disposition towards the faith. However, Osikoya’s reported comment does not establish the full circumstances of the singer’s personal decision.
Wande Coal has also reportedly been associated with the Muslim name Abdul-Ganiyy Ibn Ojosipe. Details about the name, including whether the singer has formally adopted it, have not been independently confirmed.
Despite the online discussion, the singer has yet to issue a public statement explaining his religious affiliation or confirming when any change may have taken place. The circulating video and reported social media exchange have fuelled speculation, but neither provides a complete account of his religious background.
Wande Coal remains one of Nigeria’s recognised Afrobeats vocalists, known for his singing style, songwriting and contributions to contemporary Nigerian music. He rose to prominence through Mo’ Hits Records, the label founded by Don Jazzy and D’banj, and gained wider recognition through projects including Curriculum Vitae and Mushin 2 Mo’Hits.
After Mo’ Hits Records dissolved, Wande Coal continued as a solo artiste, releasing popular songs including Bumper to Bumper, Ololufe, Iskaba and So Mi So. While the reports about his religion continue to attract attention, confirmation from the singer himself is still awaited.
