Agbara Nla Hits ₦354.5m at Nigerian Box Office, Leads Weekend Chart

Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla has grossed ₦354.5 million at the Nigerian box office since its cinema release on October 1, 2026, according to its distributor, Nile Entertainment.
The film topped the Nigerian weekend box office with ₦47.50 million, outperforming Street Fighter, which earned ₦36.43 million, and The Other Mummy, which recorded ₦8.67 million, according to figures released by the distributor.
The three films generated a combined ₦92.61 million during the reported weekend, accounting for 58.9 per cent of total box office earnings. Nile Entertainment said its entire slate contributed 68 per cent of the weekend’s revenue.
Agbara Nla is a remake of a Christian film classic produced by Mount Zion Film Productions more than three decades ago. The new version was co-produced by Mount Zion Film Productions, Sozo Films and Circuits, with Nile Entertainment handling distribution in Nigeria and working with international partners for overseas releases.
The distributor attributed the film’s strong performance to a marketing campaign designed to appeal both to audiences familiar with the original production and to younger viewers discovering the story for the first time.
According to Nile Entertainment, the campaign included engagement with the Mount Zion community, endorsements from church leaders and online promotional activities. The company also reported generating more than ₦71 million in advance ticket sales in a single day.
Beyond its Nigerian performance, the distributor said Agbara Nla recorded an opening-weekend gross of $120,660 in selected cinemas in the United Kingdom and Canada. It also described the film as a record-setting Nollywood release in several UK categories, including opening-weekend performance and pre-sales.
Meanwhile, Street Fighter and The Other Mummy, both released in cinemas on October 16, were promoted through campaigns tailored to their respective genres and audiences. Nile Entertainment’s General Manager, Nowe Segun-Ojo, said the performance of the three films reflected the company’s distribution strategy since it began operations in August 2024.
The results highlight the commercial potential of targeted film marketing and established audience communities in Nigeria’s cinema market. However, the reported box office figures and international records were provided by the distributor and should be read in that context.
