Oyo Police Arrest Three Men in Saki Over Alleged Same-Sex Acts

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men in Saki over allegations of engaging in same-sex sexual acts, according to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade.
The suspects were identified as Ayomide Lukeman, 22, Shuaib Aremu, 22, and Abdul-Rasheed Mufeed, 23. They were reportedly arrested by operatives of the command’s Monitoring Unit at its Saki Operational Base.
Ayanlade said the arrests followed intelligence received on September 29, 2026, concerning the alleged involvement of some individuals in what the police described as “unnatural sexual conduct”.
According to the spokesperson, the Commissioner of Police directed the Monitoring Unit to investigate the information and take appropriate action. The operation subsequently led to the arrest of the three men.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects had allegedly admitted to engaging in homosexual acts. Ayanlade further claimed that two of the men told investigators they had engaged in sexual relations with the third suspect on several occasions.
He added that the suspects reportedly referred to the third man as their “wife”. The claims form part of the police account of the ongoing investigation and have not been tested in court.
Ayanlade said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and determine whether other individuals were involved. He assured the public that the command would handle the case professionally, impartially and in accordance with the law.
Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013, criminalises same-sex marriages and civil unions and contains provisions addressing certain same-sex relationships and activities. The law prescribes a penalty of up to 14 years’ imprisonment for individuals convicted of entering into a same-sex marriage or civil union. The suspects’ arrest does not amount to a conviction, and the investigation remains ongoing.
