Kwankwasiyya Movement to Engage INEC Over NDC Deputy Governorship Candidate’s Omission

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has announced plans to engage the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) deputy governorship candidate in Kano State, from the commission’s final list of candidates.
Kwankwaso and his principal, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, were reportedly missing from the list published by INEC. The development has raised concerns within the movement, which says it intends to pursue the matter through the available legal and electoral channels.
The NDC has described the omission as an error and said it is seeking a correction. The party’s position suggests that it wants the electoral body to review the list and address the issue.
Speaking on Arise Television, Habibu Mohammed, spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, said the omission came as a surprise because, according to him, there had been no prior issue with INEC regarding Kwankwaso’s candidacy.
Mohammed said Kwankwaso, a former deputy governor, was registered with the NDC within the stipulated deadline. He also maintained that the movement was unaware of any pending court judgment or order that could explain why the names were left off the list.
The spokesperson said electoral provisions allow candidates 14 days to seek redress when their names are omitted from the final list. He added that the movement would explore the available options and engage INEC in an effort to resolve the matter.
Mohammed expressed confidence that the issue could be addressed through the appropriate channels, stressing that the Kwankwasiyya Movement was committed to following the law. However, INEC’s explanation for the omission was not included in the report.
The next steps will depend on discussions with INEC and any formal action taken by the affected candidates or the NDC. Until the commission responds or a correction is made, the status of the candidates’ names on the final list remains a key issue for the movement.
